NSB Recruitment currently have an exciting opportunity working for an award-winning multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy. As a CIEEM Registered Practice, they provide high quality advice and sustainable and creative solutions for their clients in the fields of ecology, landscape architecture, water, GIS, Environmental Impact Assessment, arboriculture, and countryside management.
They work across a wide variety of sectors including housing, leisure, transport, utilities, renewable energy, local and national government, conservation agencies and education and have a strong reputation for dealing with complex and challenging projects, providing the best outcomes for our clients, the environment, and local communities.
Having recently won several exciting new development and conservation projects, they are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Consultant Ecologist and a Senior Ecologist to join their team.
Location: These are permanent positions (either full or part time considered), based at their Grade II listed offices in near Bath, home-working options as part of their Flexible Working Policy.
The posts will involve:
- Efficient management and delivery of ecology projects/ tasks across a range of sectors and the ecology requirement of multidisciplinary projects (Senior grade).
- Provision of specialist advice to clients/ project teams as required.
- Management and delivery of smaller projects and tasks across a range of sectors (Consultant grade).
- Coordination of field surveys and deliverables for a range of client projects.
- Undertaking field surveys across a range of sites (including UK Habitat Classification surveys, ‘Extended’ UKHab surveys, and protected species surveys).
- Production of high quality, robust written documents, including survey reports, PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs and ES Ecology Chapters (appropriate to grade) for a range of development proposals (dependent on experience and with support as necessary).
- Acting as day-to-day client interface.
- Co-ordination of specialist sub-consultants as required.
- Writing quotes/ tender proposals for relevant projects across a range of sectors.
- Mentoring junior staff members in areas of expertise, both within the ecology team and across the company.
Qualifications, experience, and skills required.
- A relevant degree(s) and appropriate membership of CIEEM.
- At least 5 years (Senior) or 2-3 years (Consultant) relevant consultancy experience, with proven experience at the appropriate level in the following key areas:
- Management of commercial projects to time and budget
- Identifying and implementing solutions to issues as they arise
- Production of robust PEAs, Ecological Impact Assessment reports (to CIEEM standards) and Ecology Chapters of Environmental Statements (Senior grade)
- Preparation of/ assisting with the preparation of EPS licence applications
- Good botanical identification/ survey skills desirable (at least FISC level 3)
- Biodiversity Net Gain assessment using the Statutory Metric 4.0
- NE survey licence(s) an advantage (particularly bats, barn owl or dormice)
- A thorough understanding of the UK planning system and supporting relevant UK and European legislation and policy.
- Experience of reviewing reports produced by junior colleagues for quality and technical accuracy and providing constructive feedback and of mentoring/ providing training to colleagues in areas of specialist knowledge (Senior grade).
- Excellent attention to detail.
