NSB Recruitment is partnering with a high-growth, design-led sustainability consultancy to appoint an Associate-level Carbon & Sustainability Consultant into its London practice.
This role is aimed at someone who wants more than just delivery. You will be trusted with shaping how projects are approached, how clients are advised, and how the team evolves, not simply executing someone else’s framework.
You’ll join a consultancy known for combining rigorous carbon modelling with real-world development insight, working across major commercial, residential and regeneration schemes in the UK and internationally.
Why this role is different
Rather than sitting in a narrow technical silo, this Associate position sits at the intersection of carbon strategy, project leadership and commercial growth. You will influence projects from the earliest concept stages through planning, delivery and in-use performance — and you will help shape how the consultancy itself grows.
Your role
You will act as a carbon and sustainability lead on complex developments, with responsibility for both the technical direction and the people delivering it.
Your work will typically involve:
- Owning the carbon and sustainability approach on major projects
- Setting whole-life carbon, energy and net-zero strategies for clients
- Leading multi-disciplinary design teams through sustainability decisions
- Overseeing modelling, analysis and reporting undertaken by your team
- Supporting Directors with client strategy, proposals and fee delivery
- Line-managing and developing consultants and senior consultants
- Representing the business in client meetings, workshops and design reviews
Technical focus
You will be expected to bring depth in several of the following areas, and credibility across most:
- Whole-life and embodied carbon modelling
- Operational energy and performance modelling
- NABERS UK and in-use performance
- Overheating and dynamic thermal simulation
- Low-carbon energy systems and heat networks
- Circular economy and resource efficiency
- Net-zero carbon frameworks
- BREEAM, WELL and HQM delivery
- Planning-stage sustainability, energy and carbon reporting
You won’t be doing all the modelling yourself, but you will be accountable for its quality, interpretation and application.
Who this suits
This role is designed for someone who is either already operating at Associate level, or who is a strong Senior Consultant ready to step up.
You are likely to bring:
- A background in sustainability, energy or carbon consultancy
- Strong technical credibility in carbon and building performance
- Experience dealing directly with developers, architects and project teams
- The confidence to challenge, influence and guide clients
- An interest in developing people and building teams
- A commercial mindset, not just a technical one
What’s on offer
This is a consultancy that is investing heavily in its next phase of growth, with clear progression routes for people who want to lead.
You can expect:
- Salary up to £80,000 (depending on experience) & a strong benefits package
- Hybrid and flexible working
- Defined progression beyond Associate
- Exposure to complex, high-profile developments
- The chance to influence both projects and the business
