NSB Recruitment have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious / aspiring Arboriculture Consultant to join this growing consultancy firm. This key position will see you play a significant role in the further expansion of this existing team as well as work alongside a highly regarded industry professional with over 25 years of experience.

My client is based on the outskirts of Cardiff.  They have tree surgery, grounds maintenance and arboriculture consultancy departments which, including the office team, total over fifty staff. Whether it’s being punctual, maintaining their Arboriculture Association Approved Contractor (AAAC) status or adhering to ecological constraints, their core values of honesty integrity and pride run through every aspect of the business.  All departments often work with domestic, public and private sector clients.

Building on the strength of the wider business, the arboriculture consultancy team was established two years ago and has grown significantly. The majority of the work is in South Wales, but they also serve clients across the whole of Wales and England. They provide the following surveys:

  • Tree risk – benefit assessment, also referred to as tree condition or tree hazard assessment;
  • Trees in relation to development, covering cover all stages of the development process from feasibility through to post construction aftercare. They also work on all sizes of schemes from a one storey home extension to a nationally significant infrastructure project;
  • Homebuyer reports, often required to fulfil lenders requirements;
  • Trees and subsidence, either as a standalone report or with collaborators who specialise in tree law and ground condition;
  • Tree and woodland management plans for conservation or leisure, working in partnership with ecologists we can provide management plan for your patch of heaven (it should be noted they do not undertake Forestry work).

Location – Cardiff; Flexible working arrangements available. (typically 1-2 days a week in the office )

My clients existing team consists of a Consultancy Manger and a Lead Consultant, with flexible working, often working from home, from the office and on site, the intention is to provide flexible working arrangements to allow a healthy work life balance, the new role will be included within this arrangement. This is a full-time role which will include:

  • Planning the completion of work allocated to you including preparation of risk assessments, confirming access, managing client expectations and interaction with other team members;
  • Providing high quality, pragmatic professional advice including technical reports;
  • Acting with integrity honesty and promoting the good reputation of my client and the arboriculture industry;
  • Working alongside the rest of the consultancy team to achieve shared workload, targets and deadlines;

Ideally You Will Have The Following

My client is looking for a consultant to who is able to undertake tree condition assessments and BS5837 surveys independently from inception to completion. You must hold an arboriculture qualification at QC4 level 4 or above and should have two years post qualification experience in either consultancy, tree officer role or similar. Due to the nature of their work and the sites that my client visit, you must be able to move freely over rough terrain in the outdoors.

In addition to the points above, the following are essential qualities:

  • Full Driving licence – a company vehicle and fuel card will be provided;
  • Willingness to learn and self-driven positivity;
  • Robust IT skills including use of Word and Excel software to a high standard;
  • An effective communicator in person, over the phone, in email and reporting;
  • High level of tree identification, and visual assessment methods;
  • Ability to adapt and use your initiative to overcome problems;
  • Excellent health safety and wellbeing attitude; and ability to use digital data capture tools in the field.

Desirable qualities include:

  • Valid first aid certificate including "F” element
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Professional Tree Inspectors certificate
  • CAD and GIS experience
  • Experience of VALID or similar tree assessment methodology

They run their own skills academy of in-house informal training,  have quarterly stand downs to update and refresh skills and   provide appropriate CPD around longer term training commitments.
